"Tout simplement époustouflantes, les ambiances de Deleyaman croisent World music et sombres orchestrations pour envelopper l’auditoire. La tache portée à l’âme sera indélébile, rien ne pourra l’altérer. Depuis Dead Can dance, très peu de formations ont su tirer leur épingle du jeu, et même Rajna, dans ses meilleurs moments, ne nous a fait la même impression que ce fantastique et « Second » album des contemporains Deleyaman. Le quatuor a su ici parfaire la démonstration au bout de douze moments desquels se dégagent une force et une émotion à part, à la fois évidentes et lumineuses. Ce disque est un reflet pour l’âme, un disque de la nuit dont les reflets dessinent la culture arménienne et trahissent des réflexes de troubadours : comment ne pas se perdre dans les claviers de « Sparrow », dans les cordes orientales noyées dans la réverbération de « The door » ? Le groupe a cherché à s’économiser sur ce disque, à toucher l’essentiel. Il n’y a jamais surcharge (« Leï leï », « Black rainbow »), seulement très peu de peinture sur la toile, mais… suffisamment – c’est clair - pour projeter un nouvel espace : les voix de Liz et Aret ne cherchent pas l’exploit, elles ne veulent qu’une réponse. Elles nous interrogent, se croisant, se décroisant au fil de l’émotion qui grimpe, puis s’affaisse, revient à la charge. Deleyaman est le groupe de la nuance, ses rythmiques s’épurent et gagnent chaque seconde. C’est le temps qui court après ces percussions, Deleyaman a renversé la vapeur. Pas de phénomène d’accumulation en ces lieux. Les voix peuvent se suffire (« Ambi metch », « Denials »), mais tôt ou tard, on repense à Dead Can Dance, forcément (« Battlefield »). Et les contes enchanteurs de Deleyaman, hors du temps, finissent par gagner nos âmes partagées entre l’Orient et une quête spirituelle impossible, dans l’Occident déboussolé." "A l’automne 2000, le travail de l’américain d’origine arménienne, Aret (chant, claviers, saz, percussions) rencontre la voix de Liz (chant). Qui ne serait pas tenté de penser à Dead Can Dance dès les premiers instants de cet album de Deleyaman ? Personne. Pourtant nombreux sont ceux qui se sont aventurés dans cette voie et s’y sont brûlés les ailes. Ce n’est pas le cas de ce groupe qui n’a pas à rougir de la comparaison, tant la chose est faite avec finesse et une personnalité propre.

Si la voix d’Aret évolue dans les mêmes timbres que celle de Brendan Perry, celle de Liz est moins empreinte d’influences, plus fragile, diaphane mais à l’assurance certaine... Elles se complètent dans un registre marqué par une poétique médiévale, à la fois occidentale et orientale. Un effet accentué aussi bien par les instruments utilisés que par l’emploi successif de l’anglais et de l’arménien.

Les ambiances, sensuelles et spirituelles, ne tombent jamais dans le new-age de mauvais goût… Au contraire, elles vous envoûtent avec délicatesse. La musique pénètre votre corps et vous apaise tout en vous rendant puissant. Aret démontre un réel sens de l’arrangement en variant les plaisirs et les instruments, sans se perdre pour autant.

Avec cet album Deleyaman va directement toucher l’âme de l’auditeur sans s’encombrer de clichés et de redondances. Les ‘Enfants de la Nuit’ ont enfin trouvé un nouveau guide pour leur montrer le bon chemin." wqw, Indiepoprock

Deleyaman is a French-American band founded in 2000 by Aret Madilian, Beatrice Valantin and Gerard Madilian. Their sound can't be pigeon-holed into a single genre, it has been described as enigmatic and poetic. They are the first alternative band to have included the ancient wind instrument, the duduk, in their permanent line-up.

Lycia have given up their trademark sound of heavily distorted guitars, which is a pity. instead they focus on mostly melancholic acoustic guitar pop songs with (up beat!) rhythm machines, Kling Klang Piano sound and other sonic experiments which are supposed to create an ethereal atmosphere but are often bleak and repetitive and mostly not dark at all. Thus disappointing except for tracks like Rewrite, Mist and hjoe834
